Canada's 50 Best Bars 2026: Toronto's Entries Compared and Where to Start
Toronto landed around twenty bars on Canada's 50 Best Bars 2026. Here is how the top entries, new arrivals and themed bars compare, and which to visit first.
Toronto had a huge showing on Canada's 50 Best Bars 2026 list, with roughly twenty bars ranked. That is a lot of options, and the list alone does not tell you which to visit first. This guide sorts the Toronto entries by what each bar is actually like, using the published rankings and descriptions, so you can pick a night that suits you.
The Top Ten Heavy Hitters
According to BlogTO's rundown of the list, Bar Pompette in Little Italy placed second in the country, with Civil Liberties fourth, Library Bar fifth, Cry Baby Gallery sixth, XXX eighth and Bar Raval tenth. If you want the bars the industry rates most highly, this is the shortlist.
Civil Liberties, at 878 Bloor St. W., is a vintage-feeling neighbourhood cocktail bar with no fixed menu. Bartenders build drinks around your tastes and are known for darker Manhattan riffs and espresso martinis. It also appeared on the North America's 50 Best Bars extended list at No. 54, as reported by Streets of Toronto.
Cry Baby Gallery, at 1468 Dundas St. W., is the edgier pick, with agave, whisky and amari selections and a rum-based Zombie. It sits at No. 69 on the North America extended list.
The New Entries Worth Chasing
Several Toronto bars debuted on the Canadian list this year: Suite 115, No Vacancy, Black Dice Cafe, 915 Dupont, 416 Snack Bar, Lonely Diner and Sweaty Betty's. The standout is No Vacancy, ranked 14th and named Canada's best new bar. At 74 Ossington Ave., it is a late-night hideaway with Japanese-influenced drinks, including sake, whisky and shochu highballs and an espresso martini made with Vietnamese coffee.
Suite 115, at 532 College St., is a College Street speakeasy with passcode and vault-style entry. Its menu includes a milk tea take on the Old Fashioned, and it hosts cocktail classes, which makes it a good first-date or group option.
Bars With a Theme or a Gimmick
Bar Mordecai, at 1272 Dundas St. W., is styled like a hotel lobby, with a check-in desk, a downstairs Green Room and private karaoke rooms. It has slipped from No. 37 last year on the North American list, but it remains the most immersive night out of the group. Slice of Life, at 409 College St., is a small, stylish bar with a secret-feeling speakeasy mood and inventive pairings, such as a gin highball with vanilla yogurt and basil.
The Rest of the Toronto List
The remaining Toronto bars on the Canadian ranking are Civil Works, Doc's Green Door Lounge, Gift Shop, Simpl Things, Prequel & Co., Mother Cocktail Bar, Cocktail Bar and Bar Pompette's neighbours in the top fifty. Published sources give little detail on most of these, so check each bar's own channels for hours and menus before you go.
How to Choose
For a classic, bartender-led cocktail night, start at Civil Liberties. For something playful and a little rowdy, pick Cry Baby Gallery or Bar Mordecai. For the newest buzz, book No Vacancy and go late. For a date with a bit of theatre, try Suite 115. Rankings shift every spring, and hours and menus change, so confirm details before heading out, and always plan a safe ride home.
